How does Taste Match work?

Taste Match gives every café a score for how well its offer fits your taste. It weighs five factors: favorite roasters 31 %, processing 21 %, brewing methods 17 %, origin 17 % and flavor notes 14 %. Four of them, 83 % together, come from the coffee in the café’s hopper.

Where the factors come from

Roasters, processing, origin and flavor notes come from the coffee in the hopper, so the score moves when the café changes its beans. Brewing methods come from the café itself, for example whether it brews V60, AeroPress or batch brew. Your drinks decide which beans count: if you only drink espresso or milk drinks, processing, origin and flavor notes look at the espresso beans, if you only drink filter, at the filter beans. Your side comes from My Palate, where you rank your favorite roasters and pick what you like.

What keeps it fair

The percentages apply when all five factors have data. If a café has no data for a factor, or you have not set it, that factor is left out instead of counting as zero, and the others share its weight. Flavor notes you avoid take points off. Sponsored spots are labelled and never change the ranking.

More questions

Does Taste Match use star ratings?

No. It compares your taste with what the café offers, not what other people liked.

Can a café pay for a better score?

No. Cafés can book labelled sponsored spots, but these never change the Taste Match ranking.
