What are the alternatives to European Coffee Trip, Beany and Roasters?

It depends on what you miss. Cupd ranks cafés by your taste and by the coffee in their hopper today. Specialty Atlas shows the beans some cafés pour right now. Roasters has the largest map. For hand-picked cafés that also work offline, European Coffee Trip is still the right app.

Instead of European Coffee Trip

European Coffee Trip is a curated guide with 6,500+ hand-picked cafés in 43 countries, according to the provider, and its database is stored on your phone, so it works offline. Café profiles show house and guest roasters. Since version 2.0 the app suggests places “tailored to your coffee preferences”, but it doesn’t describe a score per café for your taste or the coffee a café pours today. Cupd does both. If you often travel without mobile data, keep European Coffee Trip for that.

Instead of Beany

Beany started in Berlin and shows which roasters pour at which bars. Members grade coffee and service at check-in, and a café’s score is the plain average. Check-ins, notes, photos, following friends and unlimited lists are Pro, at €0.99 a month or €9.99 a year. A score for your own taste and the coffee a café pours today are not described. Cupd adds both and has no subscription.

Instead of Roasters

Roasters lists more than 23,000 specialty cafés and roasters in 126 countries, according to the provider, with “no algorithmic ranking, no paid placements”. Advanced filters, unlimited lists and the forums are Pro. If you want a ranking for your own taste instead of community ratings, try Cupd. Outside Europe, Roasters has far more cafés.

Where Cupd does less

Cupd covers specialty cafés in 14 European cities, so the apps above list more places. The iPhone app is in a private beta; on Android and on a laptop you use Cupd in the browser at my.cupd.app. There are no offline maps.
